In today’s world we are heavily reliant on technology; we talk, we organise and hold meetings, we check our e-mails and we continuously update our social lives on one or more devices.  These devices are becoming increasingly more economical to enhance the quality of our lives but the demand for these gadgets surpasses the capacity that their built in batteries can handle.  The more reliant we become, the more frustrated we get with limited battery life.

Power banks are a range of portable charging devices that were designed to alleviate the frustration many of us face when operating modern devices; their charge just doesn’t last.  They are a handy tool when on the go, on holiday, or in between meetings when there is no plug point in sight.

Quality that packs a punch

All power banks found on cellularmall.co.za are of European and American standard, and have a built in rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery with a power capacity ranging from 2000 mAh to 10 000 mAh which will ensure that your device gets a full charge, while you’re busy doing life.

At cellularmall.co.za you will find a range of power bank offerings from both Muvit and Energizer.  The Muvit and Energizer Power banks come in an assortment of capacities,  weights and sizes, supporting a variety of features with:

  • Micro USB to USB connector
  • LED light display that shows when the device is fully charged, as well as how much charge is left in the device
  • USB outputs - support smartphone and tablet recharging

But what size power bank do I need?

This is the question that most consumers ask when deciding what size powerbank they require. All the various specification and numbers written on the packaging look confusing, right? But it’s actually quite simple. There are 2 basic measurements that you need to consider:

Charge Capacity

The charge capacity of the devices is measured in milliampere hour (mAh) which is used to describe the energy charge that a battery will hold and how long a device will run before the battery needs recharging. A Power banks capacity is measured in mAh to give you an indication of how much power they hold and how many times they can charge your device.

The higher capacity Power Banks such as the 10 000 mAh device means you can charge for example an iPhone 5s with a battery capacity approximately of 1500 mAh, up to 5-6 times on a single charge of the Power Bank.

Rate of charge/Output Amperage

In plain English, amperage is an amount of electricity than can pass through an electrical circuit. It is measured in Amperes or Amps for short and the symbol is an A. In general, USB ports support (in a 5V charging mode) an amperage between a 0.5A and a 2.1A. A good portable charger should support at least 1A on every charging port, below that amperage it functions more as an external battery than a charger.

If your device's power consumption is relatively high, charging it at 0.5A using your device, you might notice that despite your charger being connected, you still are hemorrhaging battery power, just a little slower. When you choose the best portable charger for your smartphone or your tablet, you should make sure that the charging port's amperage is at least 1A for smartphone and for charging tablets it should be rated 2A.
